Materials for interior decoration of the house: selection and examples of use

After building a private house, the key moment is interior decoration. It is on it that the general atmosphere in the house will depend. There are many options for cladding on sale, each of which has its own pros and cons.

Selection criteria

For finishing, it would be nice to have a ready-made design project. Otherwise, you will need to adhere to the following recommendations:

Rules for choosing a foundation for a frame house

  1. If the house is intended for year-round living, then MDF panels or plastic are not suitable. And although these materials have a high strength class, they are not fire-resistant or environmentally friendly.
  2. When choosing a material, you should consider its class. Each package has letters and numbers. If you see the number 1, then this material is not suitable for use in a residential area. Also, do not use cladding with the designation E3.
  3. Do not use materials intended for exterior cladding for finishing your home. Not only is it impractical, it is also harmful to your health.
  4. If the house is built from foam blocks, then the best finishing method is plasterboard.
  5. If you want to use the same option for finishing walls and ceilings, then you should pay attention to slatted materials. If you have chosen tiles, then choose a material of different density, for floor tiles, pay attention to abrasion resistance.
  6. Before fixing the facing material, it is necessary to treat the surface with means to protect against moisture, mold, and fungus. This procedure is mandatory, regardless of the type of finishing material.
  7. If you use textile materials, tiles or paint, the wall surface must be carefully prepared and leveled. If this is not done, then it is worth using sheet materials.
  8. If you choose putty, it is important to calculate in advance the time it will take to apply it and let all layers dry.

Those rooms that will be used every day are subject to mechanical pollution. Therefore, it is worthwhile to think about the issue of additional cleaning of the surface in advance. It is not recommended to use facing with patterns or corrugations. And although this option looks very impressive, in terms of cleaning, such a surface is not the best choice. It is worth using a wooden covering only in houses where there are stable humidity and temperature indicators throughout the year.

Paint for walls

Wall cladding by painting them is the most budgetary and simple way to transform a private house. Such a wide demand among users is due to the fact that the paint is available in a wide variety of shades. In addition, the product can be applied using different techniques.

For interior wall decoration you can use the following types of paint:

  1. Acrylic. These products are water-based. Their main advantages are odorlessness, ease of application, and quick drying. Acrylic composition can be applied to walls in any room.
  2. Alkyd. White spirit or turpentine are used to dissolve it. It is advisable to use it for painting wooden or metal elements, window or door frames, radiators, pipes.

If you use paints in different colors, this will allow you to create an original and comfortable room. The process of applying the dye is simple, so there should be no difficulties with this. But it is still better to follow some recommendations:

  1. Carefully prepare the wall surface. To do this, you need to eliminate various defects and level the surface. Putty or plaster copes with this task perfectly. After it dries, go over the base with sandpaper. This will make the surface as even and smooth as possible.
  2. Apply a layer of primer solution. It can help regulate the consumption of the composition and avoid overspending.
  3. Apply paint to the wall using a brush or roller.
  4. Wait until the first layer is completely dry, and then apply the finishing layer.

The quality of the painted surface is affected by the primary condition of the base. So pay special attention to the preparatory work.

Decorative plaster

This method is also popular when finishing a private house. To make the material, manufacturers use a wide variety of compositions with auxiliary ingredients. Thanks to them, it is possible to obtain a wide variety of colors. Using decorative plaster, you can get a surface with a different structure and relief.

Walls covered with decorative plaster can boast the following advantages:

  1. protection from mechanical impact;
  2. attractive appearance over a long period of operation;
  3. the ability to obtain an original surface without spending a lot of time and effort;
  4. environmentally friendly raw materials;
  5. the surface is easy to clean and wash.

To prepare the decorative mixture, manufacturers mix carefully selected components with water. Applying the resulting composition is easy if you follow these recommendations:

  1. Surface preparation. It is important that there are no differences on the wall of more than 1 cm. It is also worth applying an acrylic primer. It improves the adhesion of the surface with subsequent layers. In addition, the composition saturates the pores, thereby preventing dehydration of finishing materials.
  2. First layer. Throw a thin consistency composition onto the wall, smooth it out with a float or grater. Do not wait for the mass to dry, but create an original “fur coat” using a sponge or fabric.
  3. Second layer. Be sure to wait until the first layer is completely dry to apply the second. The composition is not applied continuously, but in spots. This will allow you to achieve a harmonious combination between the depressions and convexities.
  4. Leveling. After applying the second layer on the wet one, it needs to be leveled. Then the relief will be as flat as possible.

The type of pattern depends on how you move the tool. If you are doing this for the first time, it is worthwhile to apply plaster to a sheet of drywall first. This will allow you to understand the thickness of the layer for a specific type of imitation and at the same time decide on a suitable texture.

  5. Preparing the glue. Follow the instructions on the package.
  6. Applying glue to the canvases and then fixing them to the surface.

When fixing the canvases to the wall, it is important to control their verticality. After that, carefully smooth the wallpaper, remove any possible excess glue. Move from the middle to the edges and from top to bottom.
